In the month of February we customarily observe one week as WMU Focus Week. WMU is the missionary arm in most Southern Baptist Churches. The work of WMU includes the youth organizations of GAs, RAs, and Mission Friends. Central to the WMU’s purpose is equipping and educating the church to carry out the Great Commission(Matthew 28:19-20).
Watch for announcements in the weekly bulletins that will help each of us to be involved in this important week of focusing on the work of WMU. Usually, in the months of January and February, the weather is bad or uncertain. So, we have chosen to delay our first general meeting of the new year until March. On March 18 at 3:00 p.m., Elaine Hiatt (3114Montavesta Drive), will host the meeting. Please come join us and bring a friend. Our program will be about ministering to MKs and PKs (Missionary and Preacher's Kids).
Many of us have had a part in the Clothing Closet for Elkhorn Baptist Association. For some time it has been housed at Gardenside Baptist Church but the property has been sold and now the Clothing Closet has no home. If you know of property that would be suitable to house this ministry, please call the EBA office (254-7747) or the church. Note that EBA has no funds and an appropriate facility must be in an area that could serve the under privileged.
If you have a heart for missions but you don't know exactly what you can do, here are some suggestions:
1. Volunteer to help on the landscaping team.
2. Volunteer to help by being at the door on Sunday mornings to help families get their children inside.
3. Volunteer in the church office with folding, stamping, etc.
4. Serve on the Outreach teams that go out weekly to visit shut ins, prospects and new property owners in our community.
5. Ask to be a greeter at one of the entrances.
6. Ask to be a substitute teacher in our Sunday School classes.
7. Be on the "clean up team" by running the sweeper, dusting, picking up last Sunday's bulletins or tidying up the church.
8. Each Monday help is needed in the EBA Hot Meal Program at Grace BC 2-4:30; on Thursday sack lunches are prepared for the people who gather for a sandwich, cookies and chips.
